Automotive Technology Program — Sterling Aviation Early College High School
The Automotive Technology Program at Sterling Aviation Early College High School is a robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway designed to prepare students for careers in the automotive and transportation industry through a blend of hands-on technical training, industry-aligned coursework, and opportunities for industry credentials and college credit. As part of Houston Independent School District’s CTE offerings, the program equips students with both foundational skills and advanced competencies valued by employers and post-secondary institutions.
Program Focus & Experience
Students in the Automotive Technology Program learn the core principles of vehicle systems, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance. Coursework is centered on real automotive applications, and students work with professional tools and technology to build marketable skills that apply to careers as automotive technicians, service technicians, or in related fields within the transportation industry. jordan.houstonisd.org
Industry Certifications & Dual Credit
Throughout the pathway, students have opportunities to pursue industry-recognized credentials such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications — for example in maintenance and light repair, brakes, electrical systems, and steering and suspension — which enhance readiness for employment and college credit. Dual-credit options may be available in partnership with local colleges, allowing students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.
Career & Postsecondary Preparation
By completing the Automotive Technology Program, students gain real-world knowledge and skills that prepare them for careers in automotive service, repair, and transportation fields, or continuing education in technical schools, community colleges, or four-year institutions. The program is aligned with workforce demands in the Houston area and reflects HISD’s commitment to career readiness and industry partnership.
